![]() Ion Media Networks acquired the stakes in Qubo held by Classic Media (itself now a part of NBCUniversal), Scholastic, and Corus Entertainment in 2013, with all three companies retaining program distribution partnerships with the network. At the time, PBS Kids Sprout was a competing joint venture between Comcast, HIT Entertainment, PBS and Sesame Workshop NBCUniversal acquired full ownership of the cable network in November 2013, and PBS Kids Sprout's named shortened to just Sprout as a result (though it would later become Universal Kids less than four years later as a result of purchasing DreamWorks Animation). Ironically, Justin Time, one of the shows that aired on Sprout and NBC Kids at the time, would later premiere on Qubo in 2021. With the acquisition of NBCUniversal by Comcast, it was announced on March 28, 2012, that NBC and Telemundo would discontinue their Qubo blocks and replace them with NBC Kids and MiTelemundo –2 separate weekend morning preschool programming blocks which would both be programmed by PBS Kids Sprout, a preschool-oriented television network that came under NBC ownership as part of the merger – on July 7 leaving Ion Television as the only remaining network with a Qubo-branded programming block (with Ion Media acquiring NBCUniversal's interest in the venture). ![]() ![]() At launch, its programming included the first-run animated series Dragon (distributed by Scholastic) and Jane and the Dragon (produced by Corus subsidiary Nelvana), along with VeggieTales and its spinoffs 3-2-1 Penguins! and Larryboy: The Cartoon Adventures (produced by DreamWorks Classics subsidiary Big Idea, itself now a part of NBCUniversal) – marking the first time that VeggieTales had ever been broadcast as a television program. If anyone has information on this ad, or just remembers it in general, pleaseee help a girl out.Qubo launched on September 9, 2006, with the premiere of weekend morning blocks on NBC (which aired exclusively on Saturday mornings, replacing Discovery Kids on NBC, a weekly block programmed by the Discovery Kids cable network renamed The Hub in 2010 and Discovery Family in 2014) and Telemundo (which aired on both Saturday and Sunday mornings) that was followed on September 15 by the introduction of a daytime block on i: Independent Television (now Ion Television), which initially aired on Friday afternoons. I feel like I remember watching Jane and the Dragon and then seeing an ad break with this in it, but I've gone through multiple commercial compilations of YouTube and have not been successful in finding it. I also vividly remember an old timey split-flap display in a train station. ![]() They played that stupid commercial every ad break." She thought it had something to do with reading promotion and remembered the ad segment starting or ending with shooting/falling stars. I asked my mother if she remembered it and she stated something along the lines of, "Oh my god, yes. The commercial was about The Chronicles of Narnia and I remember the train from The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe being prevelent, but also there were clips from the film featured. I've been on the hunt for a very specific commercial that I think I remember being on Qubo, however it's very possible it was on something similar like Cookie Jar TV or PBS.
